School Resource Officer
The Dickenson County Sheriff’s Office is accepting applications for the position of School Resource Officer. Duties of a School Resource Officer include (but are not limited to):
Provide a safe and secure environment for students, staff, and parents at an area school. Identify potential problem
areas; determines if violations of laws occur on school grounds; investigate offenses; recommend and/or implement
corrective action.
Document contact with teachers and students; maintain incident records and prepare related reports. Prepares and submits detailed work records and reports; maintain assigned equipment and vehicles.
As needed the School Resource Officer conducts vehicular patrols, maintain contact with citizens regarding potential law enforcement problems in the county, and respond to emergency service calls.
Conducts accident and criminal investigation; gathers evidence; interviews suspects and witnesses; writes reports;
makes arrests as required; renders credible information as witness in court and other related police duties. Ability to work extended hours and remain on-call for duties.
• Minimum Qualifications and Requirements.
Each candidate must:
• Have 2 Years Experience as Certified Law Enforcement Officer Required, Current DCJS Law Enforcement Officer Certification Required, NO EXCEPITIONS
• Attend 1 Week of SRO Basic Training School Required within 60 days of hire date! (If not prior attended) NO EXCEPITIONS
• Be a citizen of the United States
• Undergo a background investigation including fingerprint based criminal history records inquiries to both the CCRE and FBI
• Have a high school education or have passed a high school equivalency examination approved by the Board of Education
• Possess a valid Virginia driver’s license
• Undergo a physical examination, subsequent to a conditional offer of employment
• Be at least 21 years of age
• Not have been convicted of or pleaded guilty or no contest to a felony or any offense that would be a felony if committed in the Commonwealth
• Not have produced a positive result on a pre-employment drug screening.
• Be of good moral character and reputation.
• Meet all other minimum qualifications listed in the Code of Virginia (§15.2-1705)
